This kinetic work consists of two 16 mm film projectors and a specially made object made of glass plates. Installed across a corner, the two projectors stand, one on each side, on an axis with the glass object. Each holds a looped section of film that travels along the circular structure created by small rollers sandwiched between the two glass panes. In between those glass panes—a clear one in the front, a frosted one at the rear—the small metal shafts have been positioned to create a circle, acting as rollers across which the film transported by the two projectors. As the looped films travel through the projectors, their beams of light cross, each shining above the other projector. Both films were exposed to colored filters—a recurring device the artist employs to create a color section of film stock—and therefore the flickering light projections change between white, reds, oranges and yellows. Cinematic sculptures - like Color Response - manipulate the apparatus of cinema and subject the machines and the materials to the demands of their new forms.
