Behind the Broadcast (2022) turned the gate of the long-standing art location in Berlin into a radio station. The large speakers mounted into the gates broadcast the soundtracks played within the artist studios on site to the open air, in a way, occupying the empty frequency around and beyond the studio complex. Arising from the on-going resistance toward gentrification by the tenants at Uferhallen, the piece brings awareness to precarious situations caused by the rapid commodification of space and voice the right and wish to move and create freely. As the visual component, mirror paper replaces portions of the steel gates, which again problematize the relationship between the outside and the inside, the free and the confined.

The work was produced for the exhibition Die Tore at Uferhallen, Wedding by Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and Berlin Art Week 2022.
